International Girls in ICT Day 2024

# leadership

In a remarkable effort to empower girls in the field of ICT, the Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority (TPRA) celebrated International Girls in ICT Day2024 under extraordinary circumstances. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has deprived over 19 million children of access to education, the TPRA demonstrated its commitment to nurturing future talent.

As part of the celebration, the TPRA organized an online training course in Scratch programming language in collaboration with Google Developer Group Khartoum (GDG Khartoum). The program targeted 20 young girls, equipping them with foundational programming skills in Scratch—a fun and innovative language for creating projects. Over the course of three weeks, participants had the opportunity to overcome barriers of location and time, acquiring essential skills to develop creative and innovative programming projects.

The Closing Ceremony: Showcasing Excellence

At the end of the training, participants presented their projects during a closing ceremony attended by a panel of industry experts. Dr. Dalia Mahmoud, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Al Neelain University, chaired the panel. The event fostered a spirit of interaction and creativity as the girls confidently showcased their work, reflecting the skills they had acquired during the training.

Distinguished Attendance and TPRA Support

The ceremony saw the presence of several TPRA staff members, led by Ms. Howaida Hassab Alrasoul, Head of Public Relations and Media at TPRA. She commended the participants for their efforts and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in developing digital skills among girls and supporting their future roles in technology and telecommunications.

A Message of Hope and Resilience

In the face of significant challenges confronting Sudan, this celebration sends a strong message of hope. It underscores the vital importance of investing in girls’ education as a cornerstone for building a better future. Moreover, it highlights the transformative potential of technology as a tool for empowering individuals and advancing communities.
