Environmental Impacts of Telecommunications Technology
The Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority (TPRA) is responsible for establishing specifications and standards for radio station installations, assessing the environmental impact of the telecommunications and information technology sectors, and aligning environmental standards to address, mitigate, and adapt to climate change. This aims to achieve a safe, advanced, and sustainable telecommunications environment through managing electromagnetic radiation, electronic waste, and reducing the environmental impact of telecommunications technology.
In its commitment to protecting human health and the environment, the TPRA established the Electromagnetic Radiation Measurement Laboratory in January 2016. This laboratory is a significant national achievement, designed to apply internationally recognized standards and specifications and meet the technical testing requirements outlined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The laboratory is equipped with high-quality, precise tools, equipment, and software to measure and analyze the electromagnetic power density emitted by radio stations.
