Joint Statement issued by the Sudanese Meteorological Authority and the Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority (TPRA)

28 Aug 2025

As part of the national efforts to mitigate the impacts of the rainy season on the Sudanese people, and within the framework of cooperation between the telecommunications sector and the Sudanese Meteorological Authority, the “Daraga” Service has been launched.

This is a national early-warning and weather forecasting service aimed at providing the Sudanese public with accurate climate information, forecasts, and early alerts that help them take the necessary precautionary measures to protect lives and livelihoods especially in light of increasing climate risks during the rainy season.

Recognizing the importance of integration between the relevant authorities, the Meteorological Authority has been issuing alerts via SMS in collaboration with mobile operators in Sudan. This ensures that early warnings reach communities directly and support them in taking the appropriate safety measures to protect themselves and their property.

  • These SMS alerts are limited to specific geographic areas where the risk is expected.
  • Receiving an alert means that you are within the at-risk area.
  • The SMS text does not include full details of the affected locations or timing. For more information, please refer to the Meteorological Authority website and the Daraga WhatsApp channel.
  • Please avoid sharing the alert text with people outside the risk zone or on social media, to prevent confusion among citizens who are not in the affected areas.

May this season bring goodness and blessings. May Allah protect our country and its people.
